1. Maternity Leave Entitlement
Under Republic Act No. 11210, or the Expanded Maternity Leave Law, all covered female workers in the public and private sectors, as well as female members of the Social Security System, are granted one hundred five days of fully paid maternity leave for live childbirth, regardless of whether the delivery is normal or through caesarean section. The law applies equally to all female employees irrespective of their civil status, ensuring that unmarried or unwed mothers enjoy full maternity leave protection without discrimination.

2. SSS Contribution Prerequisite
To qualify for SSS maternity leave benefits, a female member must have paid at least three monthly contributions in the twelve-month period immediately preceding the semester of her childbirth, miscarriage, or emergency termination of pregnancy. Active membership spanning twenty months satisfies this statutory contribution requirement. Once the contribution threshold is met and timely notice is given to the employer or the SSS, the member becomes fully entitled to receive daily maternity cash benefits.

3. Extended Maternity Leave
In addition to the standard one hundred five days of paid maternity leave, female workers may opt to extend their leave for an additional thirty days without pay, provided due written notice is given to the employer. Furthermore, if the female worker qualifies as a solo parent under Republic Act No. 8972, she is entitled to an additional fifteen days of maternity leave with full pay, bringing her total paid leave benefit to one hundred twenty days.
